@johnnydecimal @ctietze I used to love Johnny Decimal. All my life I used smth similar, but always ran into a quandary when I had entities that deserved two labels equally.
My PKM life was turned upside down when I stumbled upon @publicvoit's posts on tags and categories, which convinced me that logically disjunct categories didn't work for me.
Since then I have used a tightly controlled tags vocabulary, and couldn't be more satisfied with it.
@brunoarine @johnnydecimal @ctietze More about why #categories don't work for real-world stuff: https://karl-voit.at/2017/04/18/classification/
Multi-classification does use modern day's computer much better than this dirty workarounds with strict #hierarchies. #PIM
@publicvoit @brunoarine Not sure if you're arguing for these things (which are good points) in the correct discussion. The #BASB approach, more or less, depends on e.g. WIP project folders. Not long-term filing.
@ctietze @publicvoit @johnnydecimal Sorry for steering a bit from the original theme, @ctietze (btw, excellent write-up).
My quibble is only about hierarchical categories really, which oftentimes I see used with the R in the PARA system. What I meant was that when it comes to Resources organization, some people (like me) benefit more from using non-exclusive tags and a controlled vocabulary rather than hierarchies.
