> The wasmCloud core team—and our leading contributors, including Cosmonic—are steadfastly committed to open source, to the needs of our community, to the core tenants of software foundation membership, and to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). We are proud to license wasmCloud under Apache 2.0 and do not believe the Business Source License (BUSL) is open source in practice or philosophy.

#Synadia the company behind #NATS announced their intent to move their codebase fom a #FOSS license to #BUSL.
Here's #LinuxFoundation CNCF's response to that:
And the reaction of Synadia:
https://www.synadia.com/blog/synadia-response-to-cncf
Their reason boils down to #OSS: Unsustainable.
Here's the HN discussion on the matter:
I’m toying with this idea of “personality driven software development” — software that is largely shaped by the personality, humanity, trauma, quirks, interests of the (usually single) main author of it. I think there is quite a bit of software like this, often in the #oss space, a lot by #indiedevelopers and #indiegames of course.
Synadia is attempting to exit the CNCF and “claw back” their OSS asset contributions on the NATS project to re-release under a non-OSS license. This is a decidedly bad look and I hope their legal saber-rattling fails. OSS will survive, but commercially-backed OSS is dying.
Help wanted ! #OpenSource #OSS
A few years back, I made a fine little #python script to help automate shell commands and scripts over a range of dates, in parallel.
The script is called loop_wrapper and is on github: https://github.com/metno/loop_wrapper
Although it is not developed actively, it is very much in use here, and I'd like it very much if someone could help maintain it.
First, it would be great with help with CI/CD, and also pip- and conda-installation.
Do you know how to do this (or want to learn on the spot?) Have some spare time? Get in touch here: https://github.com/metno/loop_wrapper/issues

A reminder that transferring assets to a consortium in hopes that it can accelerate your business is never a “donation”, especially if one believes they can “take it back”.
Businesses see CNCF as an incubator, where “their” assets can grow. Because in many ways it is.
In my personal opinion the Apache Way is clearer in separation of corporate interests…

So @Beavernotes suddenly appeared in my timeline today ... which is cool.
But I see Beaver Notes is being reviewed in the same way as a lot of other open source projects are. I don't blame BN here, but it's a trend I'm seeing. And it feels quite odd.
First of all, BN is an application for writing text and making notes.
The reviewer states these two points first:
Privacy: All your data is stored on your device.
Offline mode: Allows you to create and edit notes without an internet connection.
I mean ... it's a text editor you install locally on your system. It's the typical functionality of any text editors.
Another thing which also appears in many open source apps is «we don't track you» or «no adds in this app»-
It just makes me sad ... because no tracking and no ads should be the normal situation for any application. And applications not needing to communicate with other services over a network shouldn't need to promote «no network access needed».
It is my strong opinion that applications tracking users, enforcing ads and requiring network access for whatever reason when not strictly needed should be forced to put a large sticker on their application of these unwanted «features». Not the other way around.

If #OpenAI ends up buying #Chrome from Google, the days of an open source #chromium browser are numbered. #oss #opensource.
Hi @cark @thunderbird,
IMO projects considering themselves #OSS should provide a 1-click link in the about screen and along the license to a) report a bug and b) the source of the according version used.
Otherwise they're more like "obstructed source software".

Lauwers received the Bronze Star when another propaganda operation led to the surrender of 600 Czechoslovak troops who had been forced into service by the Germans. She survived the war and died August 16, 2009 at age 95. (4/4)
A specific black ops creation of Lauwers was the “League of Lonely War Women” (Verein Einsamer Kriegerfrauen) which sought to undermine Axis morale & demoralize German soldiers that their wives or girlfriends were unfaithful. (3/4)

Lauwers worked in the Morale Operations section of OSS. She played a crucial role in Operation Sauerkraut recruiting disaffected German POWs to return across the line and propagate disinformation & create anti-Nazi sentiment. (2/4)
April 22, 1914: On this date Barbara Lauwers was born in then Czechoslovakia. She graduated from law school, immigrated to the US, & joined the US Army after Pearl Harbor. She was subsequently transferred to the Office of Strategic Services. (1/4)
